How the Bible Is God’s Word [Questions That Haunt]

The orthodox Christian answer — and one with which I concur — is that the Bible is not actually God’s word. Jesus the Christ is God’s Word, and the Bible is the unique testimony to Jesus. Insofar as the Bible witnesses to God’s revelation of Godself in Jesus of Nazareth, then the Bible is the testimony to the Word of God — but the Bible in and of itself is not God’s word.

Return to the Lord, your God,
for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love,

Eschatology - purpose of human life in the universe

The way I look at eschatology is that someday the world will end. When that happens no human will be able to do anything about it. Some people are obsessed with the end times and this provides a good excuse (they think) to ignore chronic long term problems such as poverty or global warming etc. I believe that until the end does come we should be doing what we can to make things better right here right now.

For most people the “end” is not the apocalypse but it is there own death. We should be living our life now so that when death comes we are ready to meet God. I think Jesus’ parable about the Foolish Rich Man illustrates this well…..

Speak out for those who cannot speak,

Speak out, judge righteously,
   defend the rights of the poor and needy.

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return there until they have watered the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
